Buddha in a Green Field

Green Buddha
Green Buddha

This is a composite I did as an unplanned exercise. I have found that when I have no inspiration, I should just go grab the first image that looks interesting to me, crank some tunes, and start working and see what comes out. This one started with the image of the Buddha from Laos. (See below for the original). I put on The Indigo Girls 1200 Curfews album and started out trying to do a watercolor simulation but it wasn’t working out so I just started playing.

I found a great green background which is at the very bottom of the piece. I had tried to see Topaz Studio to make the watercolor and what I ended up with wasn’t something that worked for watercolor but worked in its own way so I layered the original with the Topaz piece. I did some masking work to blend it a bit. Then I converted the original to a line art piece and put that at the top of the stack. That’s why you see the outlines that are not in the original picture. Then it was just a matter of adding some grunge effects and the word “Quiet” and that was it. Took about an hour and a half including the failed attempt at the watercolor.

I think I’ll start including what I was listening to for each composite. Since I am a big music geek, a tune can put me in a particular mood and it effects what and how I work.
