We all have those little things that are special to us. We love them for no apparent reason. Me? Why thanks for asking. I have a great pair of hiking shoes. Well, great is pushing it a little, and really as far as attachment goes, I like them better than most of the other shoes I have, but no attachment more than that. Come to think of it, they aren’t even that comfortable. Which brings me to the point of this little post.

While they aren’t the greatest or terribly comfortable, I do wear them a lot. The problem is that my heels begin to hurt after wearing them awhile. Up until now, I have just sucked it up, been a man, and dealt with it. But no more! I went and got the wonderful product advertised on TV, ‘Dr Scholls Gel Inserts’. You’ve see their terribly creative commercials. ‘You Gellin’? Gellin’ like Magellon! How bout you Helen McMelon? You Gellin’? Gellin’ like a felon!’ Of course you’ve seen it.

So I went to the store and purchased said product, and unpacked it. ‘Ahhh!’ As I felt it, I imagined how comfortable it would be on my little feet (I use the term ‘little’ loosely). I sized them up with a pair of scissors and put them in my shoes. This all occurred on Dec 31. I really had no place to go so I didn’t actually put them on until this morning, Jan 2. I got up on this colder than usual morning with great anticipation of the great comfort I would experience as I would slip on my new comfort experience. But first, the hot shower, because it was COLD, well, COLD for South Texas.

So after the shower and assembling my outfit for the day, I slipped on my little bits of heaven. I stood up. It was like walking on water. Wonderful! However, it was like walking on very COLD water. Apparently these little gel inserts do soak up the cold. ‘Oh well, can’t take them too long to warm up.’, I thought. ‘Hmmm…the water is pretty cold this morning.’ To make a long story short(er), It took almost half my drive to work (35 miles) with the heater on before they began to warm up. I think they should put some sort of a pre-heater on these things.
