Flowers or Farm Animals?

Thursday, October 14th, 2010

I once read a post in my favorite flickr group, Utata, that said when we lack creativity, we are reduced to taking pictures of farm animals.  Well, for me it works a little differently.  When I have no creativity, I take pictures of flowers.  I know, I know.  It seems odd.  But think about it.  It’s hard to take a truly ugly flower picture, so at least I can look at something pretty.  As you can see, today I am not feeling particularly creative, but I wanted to play with the 50mm prime lens.  Here’s the results…

Looking Up At Cactus Flowers

Sunday, May 2nd, 2010

I was reading an article from my favorite photographer, David duChemin, that talked about trying some different angles with things you photograph a lot.  Every year I photograph the blooming cactus on the ranch, so I decided to try shooting them from underneath.  I was quite surprised and pleased with the results.

Highway 476 Revisited

Monday, March 29th, 2010

I went back out to highway 476 to take some photos when it’s sunny and not cloudy like a couple of days ago.  Found some nice blue bonnet fields, an old, dilapidated farm house and went back to the little remote lake to shoot in different light.

Ok…this last one may not be the sharpest picture I ever took, but I got it at about 35 ft away, hand holding with a 70-300mm lens while he was flitting around.  I think the fact that I got anything was amazing
